FBE 30 years General congress

The Palermo Bar Association will host the next FBE General Congress.
The chosen theme has a very topical title: Lawyers under attack.
Justice reforms at European level, changes in the economy and the pandemic crisis have had a great impact on the legal profession.
The role of Bar Associations has become essential in defence of lawyers and the principles of the rule of law.

It is precisely lawyers today, more than ever before, in individual or associated form, who must defend the rule of law due to the rise of conflicts between nations, political divisions and social clashes.

In this, the support of the prerogatives of legal defence, of professional secrecy, becomes a baluard against an ever-increasing desire on the part of some governments to limit these, which are fundamental principles of democratic orders.

The Bar Associations and Law Societies must, therefore, face not only the challenges in the field of law, but also proceed to support their colleagues in facing this difficult and long period that generates anxieties, and concerns for the future of a profession that has as its purpose the defence of the rights of all.

The Congress will be an opportunity to exchange views on the actions taken by different countries in terms of helping lawyers, helping to resolve conflicts, preventing them and defending the prerogatives of our profession.
Furthermore, the need for cooperation between the European Bar Associations on issues that affect the entire European area in the defence of the Rule of Law will be confirmed.

Also at this Congress there will be the Conference of Presidents to strengthen the relations between the twinned Bar Associations and find new partners.

At the end we will all celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Federation des Barreaux d’Europe.

We look forward to seeing you in Palermo!
